STEP 2: APPLY FOR THE EXAM—Two Ways to Apply
1. Register online at ahima.org/certification/exams; or
2. Download and mail application
Choose desired certification on the right-side menu and then select paper or online application also on the right.

Make sure the first and last name provided on the application matches the name on the
Confirm meeting eligibility criteria.
Include payment if submitting a paper application (credit card, check, or money order).
Complete special accommodations form (American with Disabilities Act), if applicable.
Sign the Statement of Understanding.
AUTHORIZATION TO TEST (ATT) LETTER—received in response to your application
After eligibility for the examination is approved, candidates receive an Authorization to
Test (ATT) letter within five business days.
STEP 3: PREPARE FOR THE EXAM
Using on-demand webinars and a virtual interactive learning session, AHIMA prepares you to sit for our
certification exams. Type the certification’s initials into our store’s search function to access these courses.
STEP 4: TAKE THE EXAM
SCHEDULING THE EXAM
1. The testing appointment should be scheduled soon after receiving the ATT letter.
TIP: Scheduling an appointment early in the eligibility period increases the likelihood the candidate can sit
for the exam at his or her optimal date and time.

TIP: Be prepared to provide the authorization number located in the ATT letter. After the exam is scheduled,
candidates will receive information about the time and date of the exam, and a confirmation number.
STEP 5: EARN THE CREDENTIAL
After completing the exam and evaluation, candidates will be asked to report to the test center staff to receive their
score. Candidates who pass the exam can download a certificate from the online AHIMA CEU Center or purchase a
hard copy version online at ahima.liftoff.shop. Candidates also receive a digital badge for e-mail signatures and resumes.
