Award

Two healthcare organizations recently received the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award—the nation’s highest presidential honor for innovation and performance excellence. In December 2009, President Obama and Commerce Secretary Gary Locke announced that AtlantiCare, based in Egg Harbor Township, NJ, and Heartland Health, based in St. Joseph, MO, were among five winners of the 2009 award.

The organizations were chosen from
a field of 70 applicants that included
manufacturers, service companies, small
businesses, nonprofit organizations, and
healthcare organizations. The applicants
were rigorously evaluated by an indepen-
dent board of examiners in eight areas:
leadership, strategic planning, customer
With an ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS (jointly referred to as ICD- 10) go-live date of
October 1, 2013, organizations may focus their attention on more pressing concerns. But
don’t underestimate this great wave of change brought by the transition to ICD-10-CM
and ICD-10-PCS code sets. Start your preparations now, so when the wave hits, you’ll be
